I'm New, What Can I Expect?

OK, so I'm new to either this area, the church, religion or maybe I'm just curious about this church!
Here is what you can expect from our church, pastor, staff, congregation and maybe yourself!
Directions and Parking
Handicap parking is located near the front door. Parking spaces are clearly marked with signs. We have several parking lots located around the Church, some fill up fast, others will always have room. Usually you will find one close to the Church.

Childcare
We have an awesome nursery for infants and toddlers. Childcare is provided during all worship times and Christian Education. We offer two adults and a teenage helper during each time period, additionally we have a Good Shepherd that walks the Church. We will ask you to sign-in when you drop off your child. Beepers are available upon request. If you choose to use a beeper, the nursery staff will "beep" you if there is a concern about your child. (Don't worry, the beeper are all set to "vibrate"). Learn more about the Nursery.
Christian Education (Sunday School)
Christian Education is held between the 9:00AM and 11:00AM services. A greeter at the front doors to the church will be happy to show you the way. We have classes that will interest everybody from young and old, to introductions and explorations of the Bible, to current topics and how they relate to the Bible. Kids in the Service
Children are important to the life of LUMC. Children are always welcome to stay with you during worship. You will find crayons, coloring sheets, as well as an activity box and books at the front door to the worship area — just look for the labeled container. These items are there to help you keep young children occupied; please help yourself! During the service we offer children ages of four and up the opportunity to visit Kid's Church. Here they receive a scaled down version of a message that is easier to follow for short attention spans!
In addition to being very cute, babies cry. That's what they do. If you feel the need to leave the service with your baby, we have a nursery that broadcasts the service via a closed television circuit. We also have two rocking chairs in the back of the sanctuary, additionally the Narthex broadcasts the sermon via speakers so that you can hear and see through the glass doors. If you need a hand or help, just ask an usher or the Good Shepherd roaming the Church.
Dress
Please dress comfortably. We have no dress code. It is not uncommon to see people in shorts and sandals or jeans and sneakers. Sometimes you may even see someone wearing a tie.
The Program
As you enter the worship area, an Usher will hand you a Worship folder. This brochure contains the worship service agenda.
When you get to your seat, you'll find a small registry on the seat closest to the aisle. Please take a moment to fill out the form and tell us a bit about who you are and what brings you to LUMC — the information you provide us is vital to our ministry planning. If you'd prefer to NOT be contacted, please check the box. When you have completed the form, please pass it on down the seat during the service.
The Worship folder contains an outline area for you to follow along during Pastor Ben's message. Weekly activities and upcoming events are listed in the "This Week at LUMC". Learn more about current and upcoming events by checking our main calendar.
Worship Style
The message you will hear will be relevant to your daily life. It will contain solid Christian theology based upon the Bible. It will be interesting, enjoyable, intelligent, and understandable. Sometimes it will be humorous and sometimes it will tug at your heart.
We have a large screen with a projection system. You can expect to see graphical images and occasional video clips on the screen during worship. During first service, most hymns are sung from the hymnal located in the pews. All the words to the songs we will sing in second service are projected onto the screens. We have comfortable padded seating. The worship service will last about 60 minutes.
In the 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. service, Communion (also known as the Lord's Supper or Eucharist) is offered on the first Sunday of every month. Our tradition is this celebration is open to anyone regardless of your past or previous denominational affiliations. Everyone who wants to change his or her life and build a greater relationship with God is welcome to participate. You can also choose not to participate, sit back, enjoy the music and quietly reflect upon your life.
Offering
Visitors are not expected to contribute to the morning offering. We want you to feel welcome as our guest with no pressure to give. The offerings we do collect provide the revenues to allow us to provide local and worldwide ministries.
Greeters
Our goal is to be a friendly church that in which you will feel comfortable. We have greeters positioned at the main entrance to greet you and answer your questions. They will probably reach out to shake your hand and welcome you. Their entire purpose on Sunday is to serve you. Please do not hesitate to ask them a question or request their assistance.
